ESP8266 Weather Sensor

ESP8266 Weather Sensor Setup

ESP8266 based weather sensor with a BME280 temperature, humidity and pressure sensor, an MQ-2 gas sensor as well as a MightyOhm geiger counter.

The ESP8266 Weather Sensor is a comprehensive environmental monitoring system that combines multiple sensors to track temperature, humidity, pressure, and air quality. This IoT-enabled device connects to WiFi networks and transmits real-time data to a cloud database for analysis and visualization. The system utilizes a BME280 sensor for precise atmospheric measurements and an MQ-2 gas sensor for detecting smoke and combustible gases. A MightyOhm geiger counter ends an interrupt to the micro controller and monitors the background gamma (and muon) flux. Built on the NodeMCU platform, this compact weather station provides accurate readings every minute, making it ideal for home automation, agricultural monitoring, or scientific research projects requiring continuous environmental data collection.

CosmicWatch Muon Telescope

CosmicWatch Muon Telescope Circuit

A rotatable rig for the two CosmicWatch SiPM-based plastic scintillator detectors forming a coincidence telescope. The rig can be positioned to an appropriate angle by the NEMA17 stepper motor, controlled by a Raspberry Pi.

The CosmicWatch Muon Telescope is a sophisticated particle detector designed to observe cosmic ray muons that constantly bombard Earth from space. This desktop-sized detector uses a silicon photomultiplier coupled with a scintillator crystal to detect high-energy particles passing through the atmosphere. The circuit board processes these detection events and logs them with precise timestamps, allowing researchers and enthusiasts to study cosmic ray flux patterns. Originally developed at MIT, this open-source design enables citizen scientists to contribute to cosmic ray research while learning about particle physics, electronics, and data analysis in an engaging hands-on manner.

Raspberry Pi Tunnel Sensor

Raspberry Pi Tunnel Sensor

Raspberri Pi based weather station with BME280 temperature, humidity and pressure sensor, an MQ-2 gas sensor and MightyOhm geiger counter. The two 18650 Li-ion batteries present a (unsuccessful) UPS.

The Raspberry Pi Tunnel Sensor is a monitoring system designed to track environmental conditions in the underground tunnel. Equipped with multiple sensors including the BMP280 temperature and humidity sensor, an MQ-2 air quality sensor, and a MightyOhm geiger counter , this Raspberry Pi-based platform provides some environmental monitoring in the tunnel. The system features automated data logging and remote access capabilities through a web interface.
